Arizona Diamondbacks Place Michael Soroka on Injured List Amid Pitching Staff Crisis

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Michael Soroka on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation, Winnipeg Free Press reported. This move further cripples the team's pitching staff as they battle to stay competitive in the National League. Soroka joins fellow starting pitchers Zac Gallen, Ryne Nelson, and Corbin Burnes already sidelined with injuries.
Soroka has become a frequent visitor to the injured list in 2024. Yahoo Sports Canada noted this marks the second time this season the right-hander has missed significant time. He previously sat out nearly two months with a strained left glute and spent almost a month recovering from another injury before this latest setback.
Arizona's rotation has been decimated by injuries this season. Newsday reported that alongside Soroka, the team has Zac Gallen, Ryne Nelson, and Corbin Burnes all out with various ailments. The Diamondbacks are hoping all three will return before the regular season ends, but injuries to core rotation pieces make winning games much harder.
Seattle PI reported the injuries come as Arizona tries to stay in the National League playoff picture. With multiple starting pitchers sidelined, the team must rely heavily on backup arms and bullpen depth. The timing could prove crucial if the Diamondbacks remain in contention down the stretch.
