Unofficial Mod Brings NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to AMD Radeon GPUs

Modders have made NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 Neural Rendering run on AMD Radeon GPUs through unofficial community projects, with recent updates substantially improving performance and simplifying installation. The DLSS-NR-on-AMD project reports cumulative gains of about 89% across recent releases, while a separate open-source runtime has also improved rendering times; support is reported for Radeon RX 7000- and 9000-series cards, with some experimental handheld hardware support. AMDNR Launcher offers a simpler way to install and choose between the available runtimes, replacing more manual setup. The implementations remain experimental: DLL injection makes them suitable only for single-player games, and users may encounter visual artifacts or inconsistent image quality.
The two Radeon implementations use custom HIP kernels to run the DLSS 5 neural network directly on AMD hardware, rather than translating NVIDIA GPU code at runtime. Kien’s runtime is open-source, while Daniel Blanco’s is closed-source.
On an RX 7800 XT at 1440p with FSR Quality, Kien’s AMDNR 0.3.4 update reduced the neural-network pass from 73 milliseconds to 52 milliseconds, a 29% reduction in render time.
A YouTuber’s Cyberpunk 2077 test at 3440×1440 reportedly showed performance rising from about 30 FPS on earlier builds to roughly 50 FPS with Alpha 0.4.0.
