Bears' Caleb Williams Becomes First Player on Madden NFL 27 Cover

EA Sports has named Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams the cover athlete for Madden NFL 27, making him the first Bears player to appear on the main edition of the game. Williams is featured on the Standard Edition throwing his signature jump pass pose, while the Deluxe Edition highlights his “Iceman” biceps-rub celebration. The game is set to launch Aug. 13, with EA highlighting Williams’ 2025 breakout as he led the Bears to their first divisional title since 2018 and their first playoff win in 15 years. After a rocky start, he became known nationally for late-game heroics and set a franchise single-season passing record with 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season. EA also pointed to his walk-off, 46-yard overtime touchdown pass to DJ Moore versus the Green Bay Packers, named the NFL’s Moment of the Year, as part of what fans can expect to see in the game’s deluxe presentation. Williams said the cover announcement felt like a childhood dream coming true and expressed optimism about improving his in-game rating, which is listed as 90 overall entering the season.
EA Sports vice president of franchise strategy and marketing Evan Dexter called Williams the Bears’ “electric, generational quarterback.”
Despite a rocky start, Williams drew league-wide attention for late-game execution, including leading the NFL with seven fourth-quarter comebacks.
The main-cover jump-passing pose is tied to a specific playoff highlight: his 27-yard pass to Rome Odunze on fourth-and-eight that helped rally Chicago to a playoff win over the Packers.
The deluxe edition’s cover design is described as a tight shot of Williams with arms crossed over his white jersey, against a dark, night-like background with snow falling.
EA’s promotional materials also emphasize Williams’ off-field style—highlighting his custom nail art—and note the Deluxe Edition cover includes a custom nail set with the EA SPORTS logo.
