Cubs Face Padres in National League Wild-Card Series Opener Tuesday

The Cubs will open a best-of-three National League wild-card series against the Padres on Tuesday at Petco Park, with the Cubs’ first two games scheduled for 9 p.m. San Diego earned the No. 4 seed and home-field advantage with a 10-7 win over Arizona, while Chicago finished as the No. 5 seed. The Cubs won five of six regular-season meetings, and eliminated San Diego in last year’s wild-card series at Wrigley Field. The White Sox will begin Chicago’s postseason doubleheader at 4 p.m. Tuesday, before the Cubs’ game at 9 p.m. The Cubs-Padres series will air on NBCSN and Peacock.
Petco Park is generally considered pitcher-friendly, and last year’s series was low-scoring: no game at Wrigley Field featured more than four total runs.
Pete Crow-Armstrong enters the series after leading the majors with 9.8 WAR, 45 home runs and 119 runs scored; he also recorded 41 stolen bases.
Chicago outscored San Diego 55-28 across their six regular-season meetings, including a 23-3 victory on July 1.
San Diego had won eight of its previous 10 games and 16 of its previous 19 when it clinched home-field advantage, entering the series on a strong late-season run.
