JP Morgan Asset Management Notifies Crossing of 3% Voting Rights in Umicore, Now Holding 3.38%

JP Morgan Asset Management (UK) Limited crossed the 3% threshold for direct voting rights in Umicore on June 15, 2026, according to Umicore. The total holding for its parent, JP Morgan Asset Management Holdings Inc., now stands at 3.38% of Umicore's 246.4 million outstanding shares — a stake worth roughly €195 million based on a recent share price near €23.
The disclosure is required under Belgian law, which forces shareholders to report whenever their stake crosses the 3% mark. Market Screener notes this is the latest in a string of threshold crossings by JP Morgan entities in Umicore this month, pointing to active repositioning in the stock.
June 2026 has been unusually busy for JP Morgan's stake in Umicore. On June 2, JP Morgan Asset Management (UK) dropped below 3%, leaving the parent holding at 3.39%, according to Market Screener. Then, on June 8, JP Morgan Chase & Co. fell below 3% on a broader measure, hitting 2.60%. By June 9, it bounced back above 3%, reaching 3.98%.
On June 10, JP Morgan Chase & Co. crossed back down again, ending at 3.99% total — split between 1.51% direct shares and 2.48% in financial instruments. The June 15 notification, published formally on June 19 by ADVFN, is the latest move in this rapid back-and-forth.
JP Morgan is not alone in adjusting its Umicore position. DWS Investment GmbH also crossed above the 3% threshold for direct voting rights on June 12, 2026, according to ADVFN. Meanwhile, Bank of America Corporation notified Umicore that it crossed the 3% line for equivalent financial instruments as well.
Earlier in the year, BlackRock dropped below the 5% threshold on April 24, 2026. The flurry of notifications suggests broad institutional rebalancing around Umicore's stock. Shares closed at €22.64 on June 12, up 3.66% that day but well below the June 2 high of €26.44.
The investment activity comes with an unusual twist. Umicore recently chose JP Morgan to manage all its USD cash flows worldwide, setting up a cash concentration structure based in New York. This deepens the operational tie between the two companies at the same time JP Morgan's asset management arm is actively trading Umicore shares.
Umicore reported €19.4 billion in total annual revenue for 2025, or €3.6 billion when metals are excluded. Its market cap sits at roughly €5.72 billion. The company's next major update is expected at its July 31, 2026 earnings call, where its Battery Materials division will be closely watched.
The repeated crossing of the 3% line by JP Morgan entities points to a short-term, high-frequency trading approach rather than a stable long-term hold. Under Belgian law, the next required disclosure comes if JP Morgan's stake reaches 5%. Until then, smaller moves go unreported to the public.
Analysts at StockInvest.us rate Umicore a "Buy Candidate," citing a technical support level at €23.50. Some macro analysts argue Umicore is one of the few Western companies that can scale up production of critical minerals like gallium and germanium — materials currently dominated by China. That potential may explain why large institutions keep circling the stock despite recent price weakness.
