Ewan McGregor Actively Pitches Yoda Return and New Romance for Obi-Wan Kenobi

McGregor pitched Obi-Wan Season 2 with a storyline that would bring back Yoda, explaining that Yoda is out there somewhere after Episode III and that Obi-Wan would reach out to him; the concept could also tie into Leia's Jedi training as hinted in canon via From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.
He floated a potential Obi-Wan–Hera Syndulla romance, saying he got excited when Mary Elizabeth Winstead joined Ahsoka and suggested it could be a big love story, while noting the two characters exist in different timeframes.
McGregor has been clear that his ideas are not just talk; he described conversations with Lucasfilm co-president Dave Filoni on the Ahsoka set as casual but meaningful, saying, 'there's gotta be something' and that he’s 'trying to reach out to him' (Yoda).
Filoni has publicly indicated that certain cross-franchise ideas are not currently in development, such as 'The Hunt for Ben Solo' movie, highlighting that the roadmap for Obi-Wan-related projects remains uncertain and not all pitches move forward.
Ewan McGregor wants to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again — and he is not shy about it. AV Club reports that McGregor has been pitching story ideas to Lucasfilm, including a season 2 of his Disney+ series that would bring Yoda back to the screen for the first time since *Revenge of the Sith*.
McGregor has also floated a surprise romance idea: pairing Obi-Wan with Hera Syndulla, played by his real-life wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead. He made his pitch directly to Lucasfilm co-president Dave Filoni on the set of *Ahsoka*.
McGregor did not wait for Lucasfilm to call him. Games Radar reports that he tracked down Dave Filoni on the *Ahsoka* set and made his case in person. McGregor told Filoni, "There's got to be something," stressing that Obi-Wan's story between *Revenge of the Sith* and *A New Hope* still has room to grow.
McGregor described the talks as casual but real. He said he is "trying to reach out" to Yoda within the story — meaning Obi-Wan would search for his old master during his years of exile on Tatooine. No official project has been announced.
Comic Book reports that McGregor's core pitch for Obi-Wan season 2 centers on a simple question: where is Yoda after *Revenge of the Sith*? In his idea, Obi-Wan tries to find and reconnect with Yoda during his lonely desert exile. The story would fill in a gap that Star Wars has never fully explored on screen.
The idea has some grounding in existing Star Wars lore. *From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back* hints that Yoda trained Leia as a Jedi at some point. A season 2 story could weave that thread into a bigger adventure, giving McGregor a co-star and a clear mission for his character.
Epic Stream reports that McGregor lit up when Mary Elizabeth Winstead joined *Ahsoka* as Hera Syndulla. He immediately imagined a love story between Obi-Wan and Hera, calling it a potential "big love story" for the franchise. The idea was driven partly by wanting to work alongside his wife.
There is one major problem: the timelines do not line up cleanly. Hera's story in *Ahsoka* takes place years after Obi-Wan's death in *A New Hope*. McGregor acknowledged the timeline issue but said it did not dampen his enthusiasm. No writer or director has signed on to tackle that puzzle.
Fan hunger for more Obi-Wan content is real, but Lucasfilm has not committed to anything. Filoni has already said publicly that at least one cross-franchise idea — a film called "The Hunt for Ben Solo" — is not in development. That signals that not every pitch, even from inside the creative family, moves forward.
McGregor has said he would return in any format: a film, a series, or something else entirely. AV Club notes that his willingness is clear, but the decision rests with Lucasfilm. For now, fans are left with a string of exciting pitches and no green light.
