Blue Bell reintroduces patriotic Red, White & Blue Bell for America's 250th birthday.

Blue Bell Creameries is bringing back its patriotic ice cream flavor, Red, White & Blue Bell, for the first time since 2017 — timed to America's 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. The limited-edition half-gallon carton blends strawberry, vanilla, and blueberry ice cream with real blueberries, according to WPXI and WSBTV.
Blue Bell Vice President of Sales and Marketing Carl Breed said it was "a unanimous decision" to bring the flavor back this year. "A bowl of Red, White & Blue Bell is a great way to welcome summer and celebrate America's 250th anniversary," Breed said, per Boston 25 News.
Blue Bell first launched Red, White & Blue Bell in May 2014 as a seasonal summer offering. The flavor proved popular but quietly disappeared from store shelves in 2017. It sat dormant for nearly nine years before Blue Bell revived it on June 4, 2026, shipping it to retailers across its 23-state footprint, according to WOKV.
The timing is deliberate. July 4, 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence — a milestone known as the Semiquincentennial. Blue Bell is not an official partner of the America250 Commission, the nonpartisan group Congress created to oversee the national celebration.
Blue Bell is far from alone in leaning into the 250th anniversary. On June 3, 2026 — just one day before Blue Bell's announcement — General Mills unveiled a 79-product "America 250" lineup that includes patriotic versions of Pillsbury and Cheerios, according to Action News JAX. Graeter's Ice Cream also released a patriotic flavor called Cherry Sparkler.
A 2026 survey by M Booth and the Institute for Public Relations found that 65% of Americans believe brands should acknowledge the 250th anniversary. However, 45% also said brand participation could be seen as a political statement — making patriotic marketing a tricky balancing act for companies, per WHIO.
Founded in Brenham, Texas in 1907, Blue Bell has leaned on its Southern roots for decades. The company brings in an estimated $680 million in annual revenue and holds a top-five national sales rank — despite selling in only 23 states, primarily across the South and Midwest, according to WSOC-TV.
The U.S. ice cream market was valued at $21.64 billion in 2025. Blue Bell competes against global giants like Unilever's Ben & Jerry's and General Mills' Häagen-Dazs. By tying Red, White & Blue Bell to a once-in-a-generation national milestone, the company is betting on nostalgia to drive sales during the crucial summer window, per KIRO 7.
When the flavor first launched in 2014, early reviews called it "refreshing but nothing special." Some fans noted the ice cream's actual colors — pink, white, and purple — look more pastel than red, white, and blue. The blueberries turn the blue swirl closer to purple once mixed into the base, according to KISS Rocks.
Still, demand appears strong enough that Blue Bell called the decision to bring it back unanimous. The flavor is available now in stores as a limited-edition item. Blue Bell has not said how long it will be on shelves, so fans in its 23-state zone may want to grab a carton before summer ends, per Eagles San Antonio.
