US Launches Retaliatory Strikes on Iran's Revolutionary Guard After Jordan Attack

The U.S. military has launched airstrikes against Iran's Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for an attack that killed American troops in Jordan, according to Beaumont Enterprise. The strikes are part of a weeklong military campaign targeting Iran across the Middle East.
The conflict has drawn in U.S.-allied nations. The United Nations warned the United Arab Emirates that continued Iranian strikes on civilian infrastructure could force evacuations of major airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as well as the ports of Fujairah and Jebel Ali, Greenwich Time reported.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard carried out an attack that killed American service members stationed in Jordan. The U.S. military responded with direct airstrikes on Guard targets, according to LMT Online. The Guard is Iran's elite military force, separate from its regular army and answering directly to Supreme Leader Khamenei.
The retaliatory strikes mark a sharp escalation in direct U.S.-Iran military confrontation. Chron reported that the campaign has now stretched across an entire week, with Iran also striking U.S.-allied countries throughout the Middle East in response.
Iran has broadened its attacks beyond U.S. forces. It has struck countries allied with both the U.S. and the U.K. across the Middle East, according to CT Post. The U.K. is also named as a country with allied nations under threat from Iranian strikes.
The spread of attacks has rattled Gulf states. The U.N. warning to the UAE about airport and port evacuations signals how close the fighting has come to key civilian and economic hubs. Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports handle tens of millions of passengers each year. Fujairah and Jebel Ali are among the busiest shipping ports in the world.
An interim deal meant to end the Iran war has collapsed, The Intelligencer reported. Diplomats had been working to reach a ceasefire agreement, but negotiations broke down as the military campaign intensified on both sides.
The U.S. has also reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports to cut off its crude oil exports. Iran is a major oil producer, and blocking its shipments could squeeze its economy and limit its ability to fund military operations. The blockade adds a new economic pressure on top of the ongoing military strikes, according to Beaumont Enterprise.
