Vancouver, often called "Hollywood North," simply runs out of resources during major events. Hotels fill up with FIFA crews. Streets close for security. Permits dry up. Rather than compete for those resources, HBO pre-negotiated the pause into union contracts at no emergency cost to the production.
Season 3 began principal photography on March 2, 2026, in Vancouver and nearby Burnaby under the working title "Calm Current." The full shoot spans about nine months, from March through late November. That late wrap date means the season will likely miss the early 2027 Emmy eligibility window, pushing any awards push to 2028.
Peter Sarsgaard Plays a Brand-New Seraphite Leader
Amon is a character created entirely for the show — he has no counterpart in the PlayStation games. IGN describes him as a recurring Seraphite leader who embodies the group's religious zeal and distinctive mask culture. The Seraphites are a violent religious cult currently at war with the W.L.F. (Washington Liberation Front), a military faction led by Isaac, played by Jeffrey Wright. The W.L.F. calls the Seraphites "Scars."
Collider noted that Sarsgaard's "calm warmth with something troubling behind his eyes" makes him a natural fit for the moral complexity of the Seraphite world.
