Cafes nationwide prepare free drinks and special promotions for National Coffee Day.

National Coffee Day on Sept. 29 is prompting workplace gatherings and café promotions, with suggestions to support local coffee shops and make time for a shared break. Char & Stave plans to give each visitor a free 12-ounce drip coffee at its Ardmore and Chestnut Hill locations, with an additional coffee-liqueur tasting for guests 21 and older, while supplies last. In Las Vegas, Hedary’s Mediterranean is highlighting Lebanese coffee and lattes, and an Illy Caffè pop-up at USC offered free espresso, seasonal drinks and branded merchandise a week before the holiday. The promotions offer coffee fans several ways to mark the occasion, from neighborhood café visits to free drinks and campus events.
The National Coffee Association’s spring 2026 survey found that 66% of American adults had coffee the previous day and 73% had it during the previous week; the article notes these figures track overall coffee drinking, not workplace consumption.
Lexington’s Old School Coffee, which has four locations, serves coffee and espresso from Cincinnati-based Seven Hills Coffee Roasters and baked goods from local businesses including Spalding’s Bakery, North Lime Donuts and La Petite Delicat.
Char & Stave’s giveaway drew lines reportedly wrapping around the block at both locations last year, with customers arriving throughout the day.
The USC pop-up began with yoga and free drinks, drawing about 50 students; Illy’s marketing director described the event as “a morning of wellness, connectivity, coffee and fun.”
Hedary’s Mediterranean is located inside The Gramercy and serves guests Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
