AC Milan Nears €50 Million Deal for Belgian Winger Diego Moreira from Strasbourg

Last season at Strasbourg, Moreira contributed 5 goals and 9 assists in 42 competitive games and has earned four senior Belgium caps after the 2026 World Cup; he previously played for Chelsea, Lyon and Benfica.
Chelsea sold Moreira to RC Strasbourg for €8.5 million in 2024 and still hold a buy-back clause, though reports indicate Milan are not counting on exercising it.
The deal package is reported in a €45-50 million range, with add-ons and a sell-on clause; some outlets specifically cite €50 million, while others mention about €45 million.
The move is framed as part of Gerry Cardinale’s project at Milan, with Moreira identified as the fourth new signing under Cardinale’s regime and expected to fit into a 3-4-2-1 system on the left flank (potentially stepping into roles previously associated with Bartesaghi and Estupinan).
AC Milan are on the verge of signing Belgian winger Diego Moreira from RC Strasbourg in a deal worth up to €50 million, according to Football Italia and Sport Quotidiano. The 22-year-old is expected to complete medicals and sign paperwork imminently, making him Milan's fourth major signing under owner Gerry Cardinale.
Moreira joined Strasbourg from Chelsea for just €8.5 million in 2024. Now, little more than a year later, Milan are set to pay roughly six times that amount to bring him to Serie A, per The Sun.
Chelsea sold Moreira to Strasbourg last year for €8.5 million. They kept a buy-back clause in the deal. However, Get Football News Italy reports that Milan are not planning to use that clause. Instead, they negotiated directly with Strasbourg and agreed a fee in the €45–50 million range, plus add-ons and a sell-on percentage.
BuliNews reports Gazzetta dello Sport puts the base fee at €45 million. Football Italia and Sport Quotidiano cite figures closer to €50 million. Either way, it is a remarkable return on investment for Strasbourg in under 18 months.
The move was engineered by super-agent Jorge Mendes, one of football's most powerful brokers. Football Italia reports this is the second time Mendes has successfully completed a deal between his client and Milan. His involvement helped push the transfer past rival interest from clubs in England, Germany, and Italy.
Personal terms are set at around €3 million per season on a contract running through 2031, per Sport Quotidiano. Milan moved quickly once interest from RB Leipzig and others became clear. BuliNews confirmed Leipzig missed out as Milan jumped to close the deal first.
Moreira is a left-sided winger and wing-back who can also play as a wing-back in a back-three system. Last season at Strasbourg, he scored 5 goals and added 9 assists in 42 competitive games. He has earned four senior caps for Belgium since the 2026 World Cup. Before Strasbourg, he had spells at Chelsea, Lyon, and Benfica.
Get Football News Italy reports Milan plan to fit him into a 3-4-2-1 formation on the left flank. He is seen as both an immediate starter and a long-term asset whose value could grow further. The deal is viewed as a sign of Cardinale's new direction at Milan — buying high-upside players at the right moment.
Moreira's signing does not end Milan's busy summer. The club is still in ongoing talks over the future of star winger Rafael Leao. Milan are also weighing other attacking options to strengthen the flanks further ahead of next season.
Get Football News Italy says Milan hoped to wrap up the Moreira deal within three to four days of talks opening. With medicals and paperwork now expected imminently, the club appears firmly on track. The transfer cements Milan's intent to act fast and decisively in the market under Cardinale's ownership.
