Sydney Sweeney to Star and Produce "Hollow," a Reimagined "Sleepy Hollow" Adaptation

Sydney Sweeney is set to star in and produce Hollow, a film adaptation of Lindsey Anderson Beer’s debut novel, with Beer writing and directing the feature. The project reimagines Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow through Katrina Van Tassel’s perspective, casting her as the driver of a dangerous mystery within a seductive supernatural love triangle rather than a romantic prize. The story is pitched as a contemporary blend of gothic mood, psychological intrigue, and erotic-thriller intensity. Penguin Random House’s Putnam acquired the book rights preemptively to avoid auction, after the novel drew rapid industry attention and interest from studios. Putnam is fast-tracking publication for a fall 2027 release, timed to align with the movie’s development, and the film package is expected to move quickly into the market. LuckyChap, Beer’s Lab Brew banner, and Sweeney’s Honey Trap will produce the adaptation.
Honey Trap—Sydney Sweeney’s newly launched production banner—will make its first official film project with Hollow after the company’s recent formation.
The adaptation is rooted in the original Washington Irving setup—schoolteacher Ichabod Crane competing against Brom Bones for Katrina Van Tassel’s attention—while also involving the ominous Headless Horsemen.
Producers expect the film package to move quickly in the market, with reporting that it could hit as soon as the week of announcement/next week and may “spark a bidding war,” with studios showing interest even ahead of formal reads.
Lindsey Anderson Beer will direct and adapt the film; the reporting notes her previous feature directorial debut was Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023) and she also penned Netflix’s Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.
Sweeney is coming off Lionsgate’s thriller The Housemaid (alongside Amanda Seyfried), which surpassed $400 million globally at the box office; a follow-up titled The Housemaid’s Secret is slated for 2027.
