Global Dining Guides Highlight New Restaurants and Emerging Food Scenes Across Cities

London’s October restaurant slate includes a permanent New Haven-style pizzeria, a new all-day café from Quince baker Anna Higham, and a Thai-inspired Farringdon restaurant from former Kiln chef Kara Knowles. In Bal Harbour, a dining scene once overshadowed by luxury shopping is drawing attention with Makoto’s sushi and Stephen Starr’s new steakhouse, Slim’s, alongside long-standing Italian favorite Carpaccio. San Diego’s Taste of East Village returns Oct. 14–15 with two neighborhood routes and tastings from more than 25 restaurants, with event materials also describing participation by more than 30. Downtown Richmond’s guide highlights coffee shops, bakeries and cafés suited to coworking, brunch and casual gatherings. In Dubai, a guide to under-the-radar local favorites spotlights places such as Al Quoz bakery Birch and Thai restaurant Café Isan.
Lenny’s Covent Garden pizzeria will serve signature New Haven-style pies, including a tomato pie and “The Lenny,” split between tomato, garlic and pecorino on one half and a classic mozzarella pie on the other.
Bal Harbour’s Makoto pairs Chef Makoto Okuwa’s Edomae-style sushi and omakase with a menu for sharing; its dining room was designed by India Mahdavi, and its miso sea bass is a celebrated dish.
Taste of East Village gives attendees a Taste Passport listing participating restaurants and their menus, and organizes the festival as separate South and North routes rather than one neighborhood-wide crawl.
Downtown Richmond’s Coalescence combines craft coffee with community events, coffee classes, Wi-Fi, coworking space and meeting rooms; featured drinks include a Pear Spice Espresso & Tonic and Black Tahini Matcha.
Dubai’s Birch Bakery in Al Quoz has only a few tables and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; its recommended items include an Emirati honey and sea salt croissant, nut-and-seed loaf and sea salt focaccia.
