Browns Refuse Trade Inquiries for Backup Quarterbacks Despite League-Wide Injuries

The Cleveland Browns say they have no plans to trade backup quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel before the Nov. 10 deadline, despite injuries creating demand for quarterbacks around the NFL. New York’s Jaxson Dart is out for the season, while Washington’s Jayden Daniels and Chicago’s Caleb Williams are also injured. Cleveland views its quarterback depth as important given Deshaun Watson’s injury history and the team’s recent reliance on multiple starters. Sanders could be needed if Watson is unavailable or struggles; Gabriel is on injured reserve with a back injury, and the Browns also plan to retain rookie Taylen Green.
Sanders appeared in eight games as a rookie and made seven starts, throwing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Gabriel finished his rookie season with 937 passing yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions in 10 games.
The Browns received no trade offers for Gabriel before cutting their roster to 53 players on Aug. 30; he impressed in the preseason finale against the Patriots.
The other injured quarterbacks have different outlooks: Dart is out for the season with a knee injury, while Daniels has a dislocated elbow and Williams a hamstring injury; Daniels and Williams are considered week-to-week.
