Veru Secures Novo Nordisk Wegovy Supply for Obesity Trial, Retaining Development Control

Veru Inc. has entered a clinical supply agreement with Novo Nordisk to support its Phase 2b PLATEAU trial testing enobosarm, an oral selective androgen receptor modulator, in combination with Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy (semaglutide) for obesity in older adults already receiving Wegovy for weight reduction. Under the deal signed June 2, 2026, Veru will sponsor and run the study while Novo Nordisk supplies Wegovy at no cost for use solely within the trial. In return, Veru will provide Novo Nordisk with trial-design and execution insights, including regular updates, protocol changes, and safety information. The arrangement leaves Veru in control of global development and commercialization of enobosarm, while granting Novo Nordisk a right of first negotiation if Veru later seeks to develop, commercialize, or license enobosarm in combination with Novo Nordisk GLP-1 products. Novo Nordisk participation is also described as not an endorsement of enobosarm or the study approach. Separately, market commentary highlights mixed investor sentiment on Veru, with some analysts expressing a bullish stock view alongside concerns tied to limited current revenue, ongoing losses, and cash burn.
Novo Nordisk clarified that its involvement “does not constitute any representation regarding semaglutide’s requirement for adjunctive therapy,” and that the company’s supply of Wegovy does not imply anything about whether semaglutide needs to be paired with additional treatment.
The right of first negotiation granted to Novo Nordisk is broader than just Wegovy: it applies if Veru later seeks to develop, commercialize, or license enobosarm “in combination with any Novo Nordisk GLP-1 product, including Wegovy, for any indication.”
Veru is described as both the trial “sponsor and operator” for the Phase 2b PLATEAU study, with Novo Nordisk’s role limited to providing Wegovy—positioning the collaboration as giving Veru access to a leading GLP-1 obesity therapy while preserving Veru’s control over execution and development.
Market views included specific analyst and model calls: TipRanks reported the “most recent analyst rating” on Veru as “a Buy” with a $25.00 price target, while TipRanks’ AI Analyst (“Spark”) rated the stock “Neutral,” citing weak fundamentals (near-zero revenue, ongoing losses, significant cash burn) and a bearish technical setup (below major moving averages with a negative MACD).
