Tres policías heridos en tiroteo de Filadelfia; atacante muere y agentes estables
Three Philadelphia police officers were wounded and a suspect was killed Sunday night after a gunfight in the Wynnefield section of West Philadelphia, according to El Periódico and CBS News. The shooting happened around 10:30 PM near North 54th and Arlington Streets. All three officers are recovering and expected to survive.
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said four officers were on the scene when the suspect "opened fire on all the officers who were there." Mayor Cherelle Parker said that despite the violence, the city "this time, has won."
How the Gunfight Unfolded in Wynnefield
Officers arrived at the scene between 10:35 and 10:45 PM. The suspect opened fire almost immediately. Three of the four officers were hit. Patrol cars rushed them to Penn Presbyterian Hospital within minutes, according to CBS News.

At 12:15 AM on June 15, Commissioner Bethel and Mayor Parker held a press briefing outside the hospital. Bethel praised the officers. "These men and women give their lives for this job," he said. This is not the first time multiple officers have been shot in Philadelphia in recent years. In October 2023, three officers were shot while responding to a domestic incident in Northeast Philadelphia. In August 2019, six officers were wounded during an eight-hour standoff in the Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood, according to LNE.
Sunday's shooting adds pressure on Commissioner Bethel, whose strategy focuses on targeted enforcement in high-crime areas. That approach often puts officers in direct contact with armed suspects.
