Police Arrest Man in Málaga for Assault and Sexual Aggression After Woman's Rejection
A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Málaga after knocking a 20-year-old woman unconscious when she refused to hug and kiss him. The attack happened around 5:30 AM in the city's historic center, and a bystander who witnessed the assault stepped in to stop it from getting worse, according to La Opinión de Murcia.
National Police patrols swept the surrounding streets and arrested the suspect roughly an hour after the attack. He now faces charges for both bodily injury and sexual aggression, El Periódico reports.
Witness Steps In as Victim Lies Unconscious on Pavement
The victim was walking home through central Málaga when the suspect approached her and demanded physical affection. She refused clearly and repeatedly. He then struck her hard in the face, knocking her out instantly and sending her to the ground, according to Diario de Mallorca.
A male passerby saw the suspect standing over the unconscious woman. He intervened immediately, blocking any further contact. He then called emergency services and gave police a detailed description of the attacker's clothes and appearance. The National Police praised his "decisive intervention," saying it likely prevented a far more serious sexual assault.
Police Arrest Suspect Within an Hour of the Attack
Officers arrived at the scene in under 10 minutes from the 112 emergency call. While one unit tended to the victim — who had regained consciousness but was disoriented — other patrols fanned out through the streets, according to Levante-EMV.
By around 6:15 AM, a patrol spotted a man matching the witness's description just a few streets away. The witness confirmed his identity on the spot. The suspect was arrested and taken to the provincial police station. A National Police spokesperson said the rapid coordination between the witness and officers "was essential in the immediate detention of the individual before he could leave the city center."

Under the Spanish Penal Code's Article 178, the suspect could face 1 to 5 years in prison for sexual aggression, plus additional time for the physical injuries he caused. The case has been handed to the Juzgado de Instrucción in Málaga. The victim has already given a full statement to the UFAM, the police unit that handles crimes against women and families.

Local opposition parties are pushing for more police officers on night shifts. Others are calling for "Puntos Violetas" — safe support stations for women — to stay open 24 hours a day in the city center, not just during the annual Feria de Málaga festival, LNE reports.
