HAESKN Introduces SOLCHECK UV Indicator Featuring Home Compostable Packaging

Canadian beauty brand HAESKN has launched SOLCHECK, a first-of-its-kind UV Index Indicator designed to give users real-time sun exposure awareness, according to Montreal Gazette. The product pairs with home compostable packaging developed by CTK Bio Canada, marking a rare combination of functional innovation and zero-waste design in the sun care market.
SOLCHECK is the centerpiece of HAESKN's push to build what the company calls a modern sun care platform built around "Prep" — the idea that smart sun protection starts before you step outside, Edmonton Sun reported.
Most sunscreen products tell you how to protect your skin. SOLCHECK tells you when you need to. The device acts as a live UV Index reader, showing users the current UV strength in their environment, according to Calgary Sun. That real-time data is meant to help people make smarter choices about sun protection — like when to reapply sunscreen or when to seek shade.
HAESKN calls the product an entirely new product category: the "UV Index Indicator." The goal is to shift sun care from a reactive habit to a proactive one, Daily Herald Tribune reported. Rather than guessing at risk, users can act on live data.
The packaging behind SOLCHECK is as notable as the product itself. CTK Bio Canada's "Earth Edition" material is certified home compostable, meaning it can break down in a backyard compost bin — no industrial facility required, according to Stratford Beacon Herald. That sets it apart from most "eco-friendly" packaging, which still needs special processing to decompose.
Home compostable packaging is still rare in the beauty industry. Most brands rely on recyclable plastics or biodegradable materials that still linger in landfills for years. HAESKN's choice to use Earth Edition signals a higher bar for what "sustainable" means in consumer products, The Whig reported.
HAESKN's launch is a direct challenge to the idea that sustainable products must sacrifice quality or design. The brand says SOLCHECK proves that performance, aesthetics, and responsible packaging can all live in one product, according to Fairview Post. It is a bet that today's consumers want both results and a cleaner conscience.
The company frames SOLCHECK not as a single product but as a foundation. It is the first step in a broader sun care line built around the "Prep" philosophy — prioritizing prevention over treatment, Cold Lake Sun reported. Future products are expected to follow the same standards for sustainability and real-world function.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Canada and the United States. Yet most people still rely on feel — sunburn, heat, or bright skies — to judge UV risk. UV levels can be dangerously high even on cloudy days, which is why tools like SOLCHECK are drawing attention, according to Whitecourt Star.
The broader beauty industry has been slow to add tech-driven tools to sun care. HAESKN's entry into this space puts it ahead of most mainstream brands. If SOLCHECK finds an audience, it could push larger players to rethink how they educate — and equip — consumers about UV protection, Edmonton Sun noted.
