Bobby Okereke tops the Carolina Panthers Week 1 depth chart after signing deal.

Free agent Bobby Okereke has topped the Carolina Panthers' Week 1 depth chart, earning a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the team. Okeeke, the New York Giants' leading tackler last season, played 143 combined tackles with six passes defended and two interceptions. Coach Dave Canales promoted the competition between Claudin Cherelus and Trevin Wallace, who were considered top candidates to start alongside Devin Lloyd in the base 3-4 alignment. GM Dan Morgan reached his limit late in training camp and reached out to Okeereke as a "tackling machine." The Panthers' 3-Four base defense has been vulnerable to tight ends past few seasons due to their vulnerability to tight end tight ends.
