PowerBank Highlights 4.48 MW New York Community Solar Projects Benefiting from VDER

PowerBank Corporation (NASDAQ: PBK) has spotlighted three solar projects in New York State — Geddes, US1, and VC1 — totalling 4.48 MW of combined capacity, according to PR Newswire. The announcement comes as the company enters peak summer season and pushes well beyond its roots as a solar developer, now chasing Bitcoin, battery storage, and AI data centers.
The three projects are part of over 100 MW the company has already built and sit within a 1 GW+ development pipeline, Yahoo Finance reported. PowerBank says each project is operating at high performance levels heading into the high-demand summer months.
The Geddes project is a 3.79 MW solar farm built on a repurposed landfill in Syracuse. It reached full commercial operation on July 29, 2025, according to Investing.com. In November 2025, NYSERDA paid PowerBank $1.47 million USD as a Commercial Operation Payment for the site. The project earns roughly $0.1103 per kWh through New York's Value of Distributed Energy Resources program — known as VDER — a state system that pays solar farms based on when and where they deliver power to the grid.
The US1 project serves the Village of Union Springs, and the VC1 project serves the Village of Cazenovia. PowerBank acquired both in December 2023, PR Newswire reported. Both villages receive power under 25-year Power Purchase Agreements, or PPAs. These long-term contracts lock in stable electricity prices, shielding local budgets from swings in wholesale energy markets.
PowerBank is no longer a pure solar company. On June 3, 2025, it announced a Bitcoin treasury strategy — using renewable energy revenue to buy and hold digital assets. By June 5, it had already started routing cash from the Geddes project into Bitcoin, according to PR Newswire. CEO Dr. Richard Lu has said the company operates at the "convergence of energy and digital infrastructure."
In June 2026, PowerBank pushed further, announcing an expansion into AI compute infrastructure and modular data centers. The company also confirmed equipment purchases totalling $242.3 million USD to lock in federal tax credits for 23 projects, Canada Newswire reported. Analysts at H.C. Wainwright maintain a Buy rating with a $6.00 price target, though the consensus sits at $4.00.
New York State is racing to hit 70% renewable electricity by 2030 under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. The NY-Sun program, run by NYSERDA, has helped the state become a national leader in community solar. The Geddes landfill site gets extra incentives — called a Community Adder and a Landfill Adder — to offset the higher cost of building on contaminated ground, according to PR Newswire.
But growth has friction. Daniel Montante of the NY Solar Energy Industries Association warned that a "slowdown may be imminent" due to rising interconnection costs and a lack of new policy support. In Cazenovia — home of the VC1 project — the local preservation foundation has held community sessions on the complexities of siting commercial solar, signaling that even green projects face pushback on land use and local aesthetics.
PowerBank's own disclosures flag three key risks to the continued operation of these projects. First, extreme weather events can cut power output. Second, solar panels degrade over time and produce less energy. Third — and most pressing nationally — there is a shortage of trained operations and maintenance technicians, Yahoo Finance reported. Utility Dive estimates the solar industry faces a deficit of 53,000 workers across the U.S., which could delay repairs and hurt long-term returns.
Markets have taken note of the pressures facing small-cap clean energy firms. PBK stock dropped 6.67% on June 16, 2026. Analysts at Kalkine CA point to high financing costs as the culprit behind investor caution. Meanwhile, Intellectia AI flagged the stock as showing "high volatility" and a lack of clear financial performance data to back up the more aggressive analyst price targets.
