Unifor Reaches Tentative Labour Agreements with General Motors Covering 4,600 Union Members

Unifor has reached tentative agreements with General Motors covering over 4,600 union members across four Canadian facilities Montreal Gazette. The deals affect workers at the Oshawa Assembly Plant, CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, St. Catharines Propulsion Plant, and Woodstock Parts Distribution Centre National Post. Negotiations began on August 10, following the union's ratification of a pattern agreement with Ford Motor Company.
The tentative agreements cover Unifor Locals 222, 88, 199, and 636 Financial Post. All members of the GM Master Bargaining Committee unanimously endorsed the deal. This marks a significant step after weeks of intensive negotiations between the union and the automaker.
Unifor completed a pattern collective agreement with Ford Motor Company before turning to General Motors Montreal Gazette. Pattern agreements allow a union to establish a baseline contract with one major employer, then use it as a template for others. This approach gives the union leverage and speeds up talks with the remaining automakers.
Members will learn the full details of the tentative agreements at ratification meetings on August 29 and 30 National Post. The union will present the negotiated terms and allow workers to vote on accepting the deal. A successful ratification would finalize the agreement and end the negotiation process.
