Ninepoint Partners Appoints Tony Genua to Lead Global Equities, Reuniting with Former Colleagues

Ninepoint Partners LP has appointed Tony Genua as Lead Manager of the Ninepoint Global Select Fund, effective immediately, according to Financial Post. Genua brings more than four decades of growth-equity experience to the role, having most recently served as Senior Vice-President at AGF Investments.
At his departure from AGF in November 2024, Genua oversaw more than $16 billion in equity assets, per Montreal Gazette. He now joins Ninepoint, which manages approximately $8.2 billion in assets under management and institutional contracts across Canada.
The hire brings together a familiar team. Genua joins former AGF colleagues Sam Mitter and Jonathan Lo, who are already at Ninepoint, according to Sault Star. The reunion suggests Ninepoint deliberately recruited Genua to rebuild a proven growth-equity unit under one roof.
Genua spent nearly two decades at AGF Investments before leaving in November 2024. During that time, he led the firm's growth equity team and built a track record managing mandates for both retail and institutional clients, per Financial Post.
Genua has managed growth-equity mandates for more than 40 years. That experience spans multiple market cycles and client types. His departure from AGF, where he controlled $16 billion in equity assets, was one of the larger portfolio manager exits in Canada in 2024, according to Recorder.
The Ninepoint Global Select Fund invests in a concentrated portfolio of global companies. It crosses regions, sectors, and market capitalizations. A concentrated fund holds fewer stocks than a typical index, betting on higher conviction picks to drive stronger returns.
Ninepoint Partners is one of Canada's leading independent alternative investment managers. The firm oversees roughly $8.2 billion in assets under management and institutional contracts, per Owen Sound Sun Times. Adding a seasoned global equities manager signals a push to grow that base.
Alternative investment firms often use high-profile hires to attract new capital. Bringing in a manager with Genua's profile — 40-plus years of experience and $16 billion in prior assets — sends a clear message to institutional investors about Ninepoint's ambitions in global equities, according to Ontario Farmer.
