Philadelphia Eagles Edge Rusher Jonathan Greenard Will Miss Season Opener Due to Injury

Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard will not play in the season opener against the Washington Commanders due to a minor injury. The team chose not to place Greenard on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would have resulted in him being inactive for the first four games. This decision comes after the NFL decided to extend the season from six teams per conference to seven, and also added an extra playoff slot for each conference. This flexibility allows teams to rest key players at the end of the season, allowing them to also elect to rest a player at the start of the year. Greenard was acquired for two third-round draft choices and signed a four-year, $100 million extension that includes $50 million guaranteed.
