Lyrical Games Announces Valor Mortis Soulslike RPG Launching September 2026 With Demo

Lyrical Games and One More Level announced that Valor Mortis, a first-person Soulslike RPG set in an alternate 19th-century Europe, will launch on September 24, 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a playable demo now available on Steam. The game follows William, a resurrected French soldier whose return is tied to a corrupting plague substance (Nephtoglobin) that turns fallen men into abominations, as he uncovers a conspiracy while navigating ravaged battlefields and hostile cities. Combat centers on brutal, methodical melee with parries, dashes, and visceral finishers, alongside supernatural powers used both in fights and for traversal. The demo features two sections, including a tutorial battlefield and an area requiring transmutation powers to reach a lighthouse, reflecting the game’s Metroidvania-style exploration. French actor Vincent Cassel has been announced as the voice of Emperor Napoleon, and the title is positioned as drawing inspiration from One More Level’s Ghostrunner-style first-person action.
A report speculated that Valor Mortis is built with Unreal Engine 5, and may support Unreal features such as Nanite and Lumen.
Cinelinx reports the game will launch “day one on Xbox Game Pass” (in addition to PS5 and Steam/PC).
Lyrical Games included a mission-style statement in its reveal: “You served Napoleon. You died for Napoleon. You have risen for Napoleon,” adding that “Each death is a chance to grow stronger” as players master parries, dashes, and “visceral finishers.”
One More Level CEO Szymon Bryla said the studio wanted to “stay true to what we do best,” so “hardcore players” would find its “demanding games” engaging thanks to “expansive worlds and challenging gameplay.”
