Institutional Investors Boost Stakes in Vanguard Bond ETFs and Eaton Stock Positions

Nicolet Advisory Services LLC’s VTEB position wasn’t just a +23.9% increase; it ended the quarter with 695,282 shares (after adding 133,935 shares), worth about $35.153 million—making VTEB its 8th-largest holding and about 2.4% of its portfolio.
In VTES, Mercer Global Advisors Inc. (ADV) expanded its stake by +8.9% (3rd quarter), bringing its total to 1,374,774 shares valued at about $140.124 million—after adding 111,927 shares.
Eaton’s dividend details disclosed alongside the ownership update: stockholders of record on May 8 received a $1.10 quarterly dividend, which annualizes to $4.40, implying a dividend yield of about 1.1% (ex-dividend May 8).
Eaton Cambridge Inc.’s DFEM exposure included context beyond the modest stake increase: DFEM comprised 7.1% of its portfolio (its 5th-largest holding), and Eaton Cambridge owned about 0.30% of the ETF, worth roughly $21.52 million.
Nicolet Advisory Services LLC added 133,935 shares of the Vanguard Tax-Exempt Bond ETF (VTEB) in the fourth quarter, boosting its stake by 23.9% to 695,282 shares worth about $35.2 million, according to Watchlist News. The move made VTEB the firm's eighth-largest holding, at roughly 2.4% of its total portfolio.
The purchase is part of a broader wave of institutional buying in municipal bond ETFs. Muni ETFs gathered $12 billion in new money during Q1 2026, as advisors sought tax-shielded income in a still-elevated rate environment.
Eaton Cambridge Inc. made the boldest move in Vanguard's short-term muni fund, the Vanguard Short-Term Tax-Exempt Bond ETF (VTES), raising its stake by 49.6% during the fourth quarter. Analysts say the surge reflects a preference for short-duration bonds — those maturing in one month to seven years — to limit exposure to interest rate swings.
Mercer Global Advisors Inc. also expanded its VTES position by 8.9% in Q1, bringing its total to 1,374,774 shares valued at $140.1 million, according to Ticker Report. Cornerstone Financial Management LLC entered the fund for the first time, making a new $1.54 million investment of 30,584 shares, with VTES landing as its 17th-largest holding.
Not everyone is bullish. Nisha Patel of Parametric warns that "credit dispersion is increasing across sectors" in the muni market. That means the gap between stronger and weaker bond issuers is widening. Passive funds like VTEB hold a broad basket of bonds and may carry more hidden risk during an economic slowdown.
Morningstar currently gives a "Neutral" rating to passive strategies in the short-term muni category. The firm says active managers tend to beat passive trackers in this specific segment. Vanguard's own active muni ETF, VCRM, recently crossed $1 billion in assets — a sign that "professional bond selection" is gaining traction, per Ticker Report.
On the equity side, Icon Wealth Advisors LLC raised its stake in Eaton Corporation (ETN) by 17.5% in the fourth quarter, according to Ticker Report. The industrial giant's board declared a $1.10 quarterly dividend — a 6% year-over-year increase — with May 8 as the record date. The dividend annualizes to $4.40 per share, implying a yield of about 1.1%.
Analysts at Wolfe Research view Eaton as a bet on the "reindustrialization of North America," driven by demand from data centers and electrification projects. The firm holds an "Outperform" rating on ETN, though it trimmed its price target to $437 ahead of Eaton's planned spin-off of its Mobility business by the end of 2026.
Eaton Cambridge also holds a notable stake in the Dimensional Emerging Markets Core Equity 2 ETF (DFEM). The fund owns 655,618 shares worth roughly $21.5 million. DFEM is the firm's fifth-largest holding and makes up 7.1% of its total portfolio. Eaton Cambridge owns about 0.30% of the entire ETF.
The firm also lifted its position in the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND) by 9.3% during Q4, ending the period with 507,753 shares, according to Watchlist News. The combined moves suggest Eaton Cambridge is building a diversified, tax-conscious fixed-income and equity strategy across multiple asset classes.
