Jeff Bezos's Prometheus AI Secures $12 Billion Series B Round, Valued at $41 Billion

Bezos said Prometheus “occupies the bulk of my time,” describing it as the centerpiece of his attention alongside other roles at Amazon and Blue Origin.
Bezos announced the round in an exclusive CNBC segment with Prometheus co-CEO Vik Bajaj, casting the company as a serious challenger in the “AI arms race” versus OpenAI and Anthropic.
Prometheus co-founder/co-CEO Vik Bajaj is described as a former Google X executive, and Bezos said the company has recruited talent from major AI labs, including OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta; the headcount was reported at about 120 employees (later described as roughly 150 in another report).
Before the $12 billion Series B, Prometheus had raised initial funding of $6.2 billion at launch and later was reported to have completed a $10 billion round valuing it at $38 billion (per Bloomberg), adding context to how quickly the company’s valuation has climbed.
Jeff Bezos's AI startup Prometheus closed a $12 billion Series B funding round on June 11, 2026, valuing the company at $41 billion. The raise brings total funding to $18.2 billion since the company launched in late 2025, making it one of the largest AI fundraises in history. GeekWire and Yahoo Finance confirmed investors include JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, DST Global, and Arch Venture Partners.
Bezos stepped out of stealth mode in an exclusive CNBC appearance alongside co-CEO Vik Bajaj. He described Prometheus as the "centerpiece of my attention," saying its goal is to become an "artificial general engineer" — AI that understands physics and can design complex physical products like jet engines and spacecraft, not just generate text.
Bezos and Bajaj are drawing a clear line between Prometheus and rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic. Rather than building a general-purpose chatbot, Prometheus is focused on the physical world — what Bezos calls the "invention loop." The goal is to speed up how engineers design and manufacture complex products. GeekWire reported Bajaj put it simply: "What has changed is the ability to formulate even something as complicated as a jet engine as an end-to-end AI problem."
Bajaj is a former Google X executive and co-founder of Verily. Bezos said the company has pulled talent from OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. Yahoo Finance reported headcount is now roughly 150 employees. The company has offices in San Francisco, London, and Zurich.
Prometheus launched in November 2025 with $6.2 billion in Series A funding. By April 2026, Bloomberg reported the company was nearing a new round at a $38 billion valuation. The Series B closed at $41 billion — a jump of roughly $3 billion in valuation in under two months. Guru Focus noted the total capital raised now stands at $18.2 billion.
The speed of the climb is striking even by AI standards. Traders Union noted the round rivals recent mega-raises by Anthropic, and accounts for a significant share of all venture capital deployed in Q2 2026. Bezos himself is among the personal investors in the Series B, alongside the major financial institutions.
Bezos insists Prometheus is a separate company from Amazon. But he confirmed the startup is using Amazon Web Services for its massive computing needs. He said compute is still scarce — GPUs are hard to get — so drawing on AWS was a practical choice. GeekWire reported Bezos said the relationship with Amazon would "remain separate."
Critics are watching closely. The setup mirrors the Microsoft-OpenAI partnership, which drew antitrust scrutiny. If Prometheus gets lower prices or better hardware access from AWS, regulators may take notice. Bezos addressed regulation directly, calling for oversight at the "application level" and saying, "You don't want to accidentally outlaw the knife because it can be used in a bad way."
Bezos pointed to aerospace, computers, and automobiles as early target markets. Analysts expect Prometheus to feed directly into Blue Origin's next rocket designs and Amazon's warehouse robotics programs. Earlier reporting in the Wall Street Journal said Bezos was also exploring a separate $100 billion fund to buy manufacturing companies, which Prometheus would then modernize using its AI tools.
The company is still early-stage and not yet fully commercial, Bezos acknowledged. But he framed the long-term vision in sweeping terms. "At root, all civilizational wealth is driven by invention," he said, arguing Prometheus will help solve a coming labor shortage rather than destroy jobs. Some economists remain skeptical, warning of a long gap between AI demos and real-world factory deployment. Yahoo Finance noted the product's first commercial applications have not yet been publicly announced.
