Disney Confirms Monstropolis Land Opens in 2027 at Hollywood Studios with New Suspended Coaster

Disney’s Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster will be Disney’s first suspended roller coaster, lifting riders about 40 feet into the air in roughly four seconds before launching into the ride.
The Glob Theater show Welcome to Monstropolis is hosted by Mike Wazowski and Sulley, with Randy Newman writing an original song for the land; the show’s premise emphasizes that monsters and humans may be more alike than they think, while CDA agents express reservations about guests visiting Monstropolis.
New dining and club experiences include the Monsters University Alumni Club and the Elite Scariers Club, alongside Archie Scare Pig Pizza as the land’s quick-service option.
Harryhausen’s Restaurant will be fully realized with a new Audio-Animatronics sushi chef featuring multiple tentacles preparing monster-sized cuisine.
Harryhausen’s will recreate Mike and Celia’s memorable date from the film as part of its storytelling, tying the restaurant’s theme to a key moment in Monsters, Inc.
Disney has confirmed that Monstropolis, its new Monsters, Inc.-themed land at Hollywood Studios, will open in 2027 in phases WDWNT. Some areas will welcome guests before the centerpiece attraction is finished, giving visitors an early taste of the land while construction wraps up.
The headline attraction is the Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster — Disney's first-ever suspended roller coaster. It will lift riders about 40 feet into the air in roughly four seconds before launching them into the ride Disney Food Blog.
The Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster is unlike anything Disney has built before Disney Tourist Blog. Riders are lifted roughly 40 feet into the air in just four seconds. Then the coaster launches. The ride is themed around the famous door chase scene from the original 2001 film.
Because the coaster takes longer to complete, the rest of Monstropolis will open first WDWNT. Disney is rolling out the land in stages so guests can explore dining, shopping, and a live show while the big ride finishes construction.
A new theater experience called Welcome to Monstropolis will be staged at the Glob Theater Disney Fanatic. Mike Wazowski and Sulley host the show. Randy Newman, who scored the original Monsters, Inc. film, wrote a brand-new original song just for this production.
The show's core idea is that monsters and humans may be more alike than they think Disney Fanatic. Not everyone in Monstropolis is on board, though. CDA agents — the child detection agency from the film — will express reservations about humans visiting their world, adding a funny layer of conflict to the story.
Harryhausen's Restaurant, named after the monster sushi spot from the film, will be fully built out inside Monstropolis WDWNT. The star of the room is a new Audio-Animatronic sushi chef with multiple tentacles, preparing what Disney calls monster-sized cuisine. The restaurant will also recreate Mike and Celia's iconic date from the movie.
Quick-service dining will come from Archie Scare Pig Pizza Disney Tourist Blog. Guests can also join two exclusive clubs: the Monsters University Alumni Club and the Elite Scariers Club. A merchandise shop called Scareporium will round out the retail options in the land.
Disney revealed all of these details at D23 2026 Disney Food Blog. The announcements covered rides, dining, entertainment, and shopping in one sweep. The phased opening plan means some guests in 2027 will see a mostly complete land, with the Door Coaster arriving later.
Monstropolis represents one of the bigger expansions Hollywood Studios has seen in years Disney Fanatic. The land blends a thrill ride, live entertainment, and fully themed dining under one IP. Disney has not yet given a specific opening date beyond the 2027 target window.
