Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Expansion Launches October 2026 with New Story, Region, and Player Updates.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will be a standalone release priced at $49.99; existing base-game owners can purchase the expansion as DLC for $29.99; pre-orders on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Steam include immediate access to Dragon's Dogma 2 ahead of launch.
The key art depicts the Fallen Dragon with a hollow chest, and the expansion centers on the mysterious pursuer Eir who tracks the dragon and drives the narrative.
A Relic Expedition Cycle guides players to locate relics, appraisal yields powerful weapons and new skills, and this system is meant to deepen exploration of the Norgan region.
Capcom outlined three development goals for the expansion: make the game more enjoyable to play, add new experiences, and improve accessibility for players.
The expansion includes improvements to the character creator and other quality-of-life updates, reflecting Capcom’s responsiveness to feedback on the base game.
Capcom has officially detailed Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, a major expansion launching October 9, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The expansion adds a brand-new icy region called Norgan, 12 challenge dungeons, and a relic-powered gear system — all for $49.99 as a standalone bundle or $29.99 as a DLC upgrade for existing owners, according to Gematsu.
Director Kento Kinoshita — the same developer who led the original Dark Arisen expansion — is back at the helm. He says the goal is to give veterans "rewarding gameplay options and more adventures" while making the game more approachable for new players, RPG Site reported.
The expansion is set in Norgan, a remote, frozen land filled with ruin and mystery. At its center is Eir, a new character described as "the pursuer" — a woman tracking a creature called the Fallen Dragon, according to DLCompare. The Fallen Dragon's key art shows it with a hollow chest, hinting at a dark backstory that drives the expansion's main narrative.
Players will also encounter the Pathfinder, a returning figure from the base game. The Pathfinder serves as the architect of the "Lost Rites" — the 12 new challenge dungeons built to push the Arisen to their limits, RPG Site reported. Each dungeon is designed to get harder as players upgrade their gear and go deeper into Norgan.
The expansion introduces a new Relic Expedition Cycle. Players explore Norgan to find relics, then appraise them to unlock powerful weapons, new skills, and unique gear effects. This loop is meant to give the game a deeper endgame, according to WCCFTech. Think of it like a treasure-hunt system that keeps sending you back into tougher areas.
One major mechanical change is the expansion of weapon skill slots from four to six. Gematsu noted this shift will let players build more flexible combat styles that simply weren't possible before. Capcom also plans a late August 2026 patch to improve framerates, add three save slots, tweak the Dragonsplague mechanic, and roll out the new skill slots ahead of launch.
The base game launched in 2024 to strong reviews but real backlash over poor performance in busy areas and a lack of save slots. Now, Rock Paper Shotgun noted, Capcom is fixing "things you moaned about back in 2024." The June 10 Title Update 3.1 already added an Eternal Ferrystone and extra Portcrystals to ease the game's controversial fast-travel restrictions.
The expansion also expands the character creator with new hairstyles and tattoos for both the Arisen and pawns, according to Gamereactor. Capcom listed three clear development goals: make the game more fun to play, add new experiences, and improve accessibility. The studio has also confirmed public playtesting at Gamescom before the October 9 launch.
The full standalone bundle — base game plus expansion — costs $49.99. Current owners pay $29.99 for the DLC upgrade. Pre-orders on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Steam include immediate access to the base Dragon's Dogma 2 right now, plus a Norgan Fashion Set bonus at launch, according to Yahoo Tech.
The expansion is also a key title for the Nintendo Switch 2 launch window. IGN reported it is one of the bigger games arriving on the new hardware, meaning its performance on Switch 2 will be closely watched. The base game has sold over 5 million copies as of late 2025, giving Capcom a large existing audience to sell the upgrade to.
