New Poll Shows Rising American Mistrust Across Major Government Issues and Elections

A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and USA Facts has found that Americans are more skeptical of government information than they were a few years ago, with majorities now expressing little or no trust in federal government information about elections and politics, foreign affairs or the environment. The survey also found that only 34% of U.S. adults trust government certifications of election results, down slightly from 40% in 2024. This mistrust is also higher than it was at the end of President Donald Trump's first term. The findings come after a year and a half of upheaval in the executive branch, with thousands of federal employees fired or left their jobs, leading experts to warn about data quality. The gap between Republicans' and Democrats' trust in government information is wider than it had been during Trump's presidency.
