Capcom Reveals Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Expansion for 2027, Confirms Nintendo Switch 2 Development

Capcom announced Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance as a major expansion releasing in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with the base game currently available on those platforms and on sale. The reveal builds on a sky-focused theme, featuring floating ruins, a new environment above the Forbidden Lands, and travel that leverages riding creatures and flight-like combat scenarios. Ascendance adds new capabilities for each of the game’s 14 weapon types through the Boost Bracer, while also expanding progression with new Master Rank content that continues the story after players complete the 7th quest “Awaking from a Dream.” The expansion’s monster lineup includes returning Elder Dragons such as Kushala Daora and the previously unseen-in-years Lao-Shan Lung, alongside new adversaries shown in coordinated aerial encounters. Capcom also indicated additional development information is forthcoming for Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo Switch 2, announced as part of the expansion’s broader push.
Capcom’s Ascendance reveal video featured director Takuro Hiraoka and producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, and it also confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds is “now in development for Nintendo Switch 2,” with more release details promised later.
Beyond the “sky” setting, Capcom named the expansion’s area as the “Skybound Eyrie,” describing floating ruin-adorned islands suspended above the Forbidden Lands and travel options “topped” on Seikret mounts with gliding between the isles.
An additional named location is “Ruins of Kumojyu,” and one trailer description included the line: “I made a structure that reaches to the sky without weight,” alongside commentary about the scale of having “all this stuff in the sky.”
Capcom also highlighted returning player tools: the base-game Slinger gadget can be used in Ascendance to “supercharge weapons” and activate new techniques—separate from (and in addition to) the Boost Bracer.
While Ascendance is set for 2027, Capcom did not provide an exact day/date within the year, leaving a “wide gap” between announcement and launch.
