Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is facing a hit-and-run charge after allegedly striking an empty parked car and driving away in Yountville, California. The incident happened on Friday around 2:30 p.m. on the 6700 block of Yount Street in Napa County, according to ABC News.
Investigators used an alcohol screening device on Pelosi and detected no alcohol. He was not arrested at the scene. The Napa County Sheriff's Office is now referring the case to the Napa District Attorney's Office for review, KCRA reported.
Eyewitness Spotted the Convertible Leaving the Scene
An eyewitness reported seeing a convertible strike the parked car and then drive away. Authorities tracked the vehicle down a short distance from the crash. It was found blocking a road nearby, WMUR reported. Deputies identified the driver as Paul Pelosi.
No one was injured in the crash. The parked car that was struck was empty at the time of the collision, WCVB confirmed. The exact damage to either vehicle has not been publicly detailed.
No Alcohol Found, No Arrest Made on the Spot
Deputies used a preliminary alcohol screening device on Pelosi at the scene. The device found no alcohol in his system. Because of that result, authorities did not arrest him at the time, according to KOCO.
A hit-and-run charge does not require alcohol to be involved. Leaving the scene of an accident without stopping to exchange information is itself a violation under California law. Pelosi now faces that charge regardless of his sobriety, KMBC noted.

The Napa County Sheriff's Office is sending the case to the Napa District Attorney's Office. That office will decide whether to formally charge Pelosi. The sheriff's office has not said when a decision is expected, according to WGAL.
