Royals' Noah Cameron Delivers Complete-Game Shutout, Holding Angels to One Hit in 3-0 Victory

Noah Cameron came within five outs of a perfect game and finished with a one-hitter, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 3-0 shutout of the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday, according to AP News. Cameron struck out eight and walked just one, throwing 115 pitches across all nine innings to complete the gem.
The performance moved Cameron's record to 7-8 on the season. Michael Massey and Bobby Witt Jr. each hit home runs to provide the offense, CBS Sports reported.
Cameron retired the first 15 Angels batters he faced, The Kansas City Star reported. That stretch had him flirting with both a perfect game and a no-hitter deep into the afternoon. The St. Joseph, Missouri native was in total command from the first pitch, according to Kansas.com.
His near-perfect run ended somewhere after that 15th batter. But Cameron never lost control of the game. He allowed just one hit total and walked only one batter all day. Eight strikeouts kept the Angels lineup off-balance throughout.
The Royals did not need much offense behind such a dominant pitching effort. Michael Massey went deep to put Kansas City on the board. Bobby Witt Jr., one of the game's brightest young stars, added his own home run to push the lead to 3-0, Yahoo Sports reported.
The Angels starter Ryan Johnson held his own for five innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs, according to The Las Vegas Sun. But Cameron's performance made any Angels comeback impossible.
Complete games are extremely rare in modern baseball. Most starters throw six innings or fewer. A nine-inning, one-hit shutout on 115 pitches stands out as a truly special outing. Cameron held the Angels to a single hit across 27 outs, a feat that would be notable in any era, according to Houston Chronicle.
Cameron induced 10 ground balls during the game, The Kansas City Star reported. That mix of strikeouts and weak contact showed he was dominating hitters in multiple ways, not just overpowering them.
The win capped Kansas City's road trip to Anaheim. The Royals now return home to host the Oakland Athletics in a four-game series starting Monday, according to Newsday. Kansas City will look to build on the momentum of one of its most dominant pitching performances of the season.
