Coast Guard Swimmer Rescues Man Missing For Twelve Hours Near Long Beach

Coast Guard swimmer Luke Singer rescued Paul Anthony Carbullido Jr. after the man spent more than 12 hours missing in the ocean near Long Beach, California, following a personal watercraft accident. Press Telegram reported that a Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted Carbullido floating on his back in the water before Singer was lowered on a cable to bring him to safety.
Carbullido had fallen off a rented personal watercraft near the Queens Gate Entrance Channel in Long Beach. Daily News reported that he remained in the water for more than 12 hours before rescue crews found him. The Coast Guard helicopter crew eventually spotted him floating on his back, triggering the dramatic rescue operation.
Once the helicopter crew located Carbullido, they deployed Singer, a trained Coast Guard swimmer, to perform the rescue. Orange County Register noted that Singer was lowered into the water on a cable to reach Carbullido. The rescue operation demonstrated the Coast Guard's specialized training and equipment for water-based emergencies.
Remarkably, Carbullido was found uninjured despite spending more than 12 hours in the ocean. Press Enterprise reported that he was transported to shore for medical evaluation and observation. His survival in the water for such an extended period highlighted both his physical endurance and the effectiveness of the Coast Guard rescue team.
Carbullido and his roommate, Donna Durbay, had rented personal watercrafts near the Queens Gate Entrance Channel. Daily Breeze reported that Carbullido fell off his watercraft during the outing. The incident underscores the hazards of recreational water activities and the importance of rescue readiness in busy coastal areas like Long Beach.
