Institutional Investors Actively Adjust ETF Portfolios; XML Financial Boosts VTI Stake by 24.5%

Recent SEC filings and market-tracking reports show active institutional trading across several broadly diversified ETFs. XML Financial LLC increased its stake in the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) by 24.5% during the fourth quarter, while Strategic Wealth Investment Group LLC sharply cut its VTI holdings by 82.2%. In the inflation-protected space, Palladiem LLC initiated a position in the Vanguard Short-Term Inflation-Protected Securities ETF (VTIP), adding about 64,782 shares. For international income exposure, MCF Advisors LLC dramatically expanded its position in the Vanguard International High Dividend Yield ETF (VYMI) by 3,684.8%. On the factor/income side, Tradition Wealth Management LLC bought a new position in the Goldman Sachs Nasdaq 100 Core Premium Income ETF (GPIQ), taking on about 51,665 shares.
XML Financial LLC’s VTI position ended the quarter at 7,284 shares, valued at about $2.442 million (after adding 1,433 shares), underscoring that the 24.5% increase translated into a sizable dollar exposure, not just a relative change.
Other managers also adjusted VTI holdings during the period: for example, Boyum Wealth Architects LLC increased its stake by 0.3%, ending with 11,653 shares worth about $3.969 million (after buying an additional 30 shares).
Palladiem LLC’s new VTIP stake was also material within its portfolio: the ETF accounted for 3.0% of Palladiem’s investments and was its 12th-largest position, with the 64,782-share purchase valued at approximately $3.205 million.
In VYMI, MCF Advisors LLC ended the quarter with 7,494 shares (after adding 7,296 shares), and one other investor—Capital Advantage Inc.—raised its VYMI position by 4.0% to 410,003 shares worth about $36.9 million.
For GPIQ, Tradition Wealth Management LLC reported owning about 0.09% of the ETF after buying 51,665 shares worth roughly $2.732 million; the ETF’s reported trading metrics in the article included a market cap of about $3.91 billion, P/E of 33.26, beta of 1.03, and a 52-week range of $47.72 to $59.65.
