Raiders tight end Brock Bowers aims for a Week 2 return after meniscus surgery.

Bowers’ previous knee injury was a PCL sprain and bone bruise suffered in Week 1 of 2025; he played through three additional games, missed three in October and eventually landed on injured reserve. Despite appearing in only 12 games, he finished that season with 64 catches, 680 yards and seven touchdowns.
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak acknowledged that he had initially expected Bowers to play in Week 1, saying, “I was optimistic earlier that Brock would be able to go — he’s not. We’ll get him back soon.”
Former NFL safety Su’a Cravens warned that repeatedly rushing back from meniscus procedures can cause lasting damage, writing: “Was rushed back each time and tore it over and over again to the point I didn’t have a meniscus to scope. Now it’s bone on bone.”
The Raiders may use more two-tight-end formations while Bowers is sidelined, with Michael Mayer taking the featured snaps and Ian Thomas also expected to receive additional opportunities.
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers will miss Week 1 against Miami after undergoing a meniscus trim procedure. The team expects him to return as early as Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers, giving him an 11-day window to recover, according to 4for4. Head coach Klint Kubiak said Bowers is day-to-day and "working tail off" to rejoin the lineup.
Bowers finished last season with 64 catches, 680 yards, and seven touchdowns despite playing only 12 games, including time on injured reserve with a previous knee injury. The aggressive timeline for his return has raised concerns about whether the Raiders should prioritize his long-term health over rushing him back, Yahoo Sports reported.
Michael Mayer will take over as the featured tight end for Week 1 against Miami. Las Vegas may also use two-tight-end formations more frequently while Bowers recovers. Backup Ian Thomas is expected to receive additional snaps to help fill the void, according to 4for4.
Head coach Klint Kubiak acknowledged he initially believed Bowers would play in the opener. "I was optimistic earlier that Brock would be able to go — he's not," Kubiak said, adding, "We'll get him back soon." The coach confirmed Bowers is working hard on his recovery and remains day-to-day heading into Week 2, 4for4 reported.
