Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version on Nintendo Switch will finally connect to Pokémon HOME starting in October 2026, Nintendo Wire reports. The link allows one-way transfers out of the two remakes and into HOME, where players can move their Pokémon into modern titles.
The news comes eight months after the Switch releases of the classic Game Boy Advance games, Comic Book notes. Nintendo also confirmed that Pokémon Bank — the older cloud storage service — will shut down on or around February 25–26, 2027, cutting off an era of legacy Pokémon storage.
How FireRed and LeafGreen Connect to Pokémon HOME
Once players link their game to Pokémon HOME, they can send caught Pokémon to the cloud. From there, those Pokémon can move into other compatible Switch titles. According to Final Weapon, the link works one way only — no Pokémon can be sent back into FireRed or LeafGreen from another game.
Connecting HOME also gives players a bonus. The app will automatically register any species already in the player's FireRed or LeafGreen save into the in-game Pokédex. Players who complete the full Pokédex will receive the Mythical Pokémon Celebi as a reward in the mobile version of HOME, RPG Site confirms.
HOME Version 4.1.0 Brings Bigger Storage and Safari Ball Transfers
The October 2026 update, version 4.1.0, raises the Premium Plan storage cap from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon. The price of a Premium Plan subscription stays the same. No extra cost for the added space.
The update also adds a new transfer option. Players can now move Pokémon caught in Safari Balls from Pokémon GO into HOME. Once transferred, those Pokémon arrive marked as holding a "Strange Ball" — a label used when a ball type does not exist in the receiving game, according to Game Rant.
Pokémon Bank Closure Deadline Players Must Not Miss
Pokémon Bank, Nintendo's older storage app, will end service with a final closure window. After that date — reported as either February 25 or February 26, 2027, depending on the outlet — players will not be able to deposit, withdraw, or transfer any Pokémon. The one-day discrepancy between sources could matter for players cutting it close.
Critically, Bank cannot send Pokémon into FireRed or LeafGreen. Transfers only flow from Bank into HOME and then onward. Nintendo Wire warns that any Pokémon left in Bank after the closure date will be lost. Players should move their collections well before the deadline.
Legendary Event Tickets Return for Kanto Remake Players
The FireRed and LeafGreen HOME link also brings back two rare event items. The Mystic Ticket lets players encounter Lugia and Ho-Oh. The Aurora Ticket unlocks an encounter with Deoxys. Both were originally handed out at limited in-person events during the Game Boy Advance era and were nearly impossible to get after those events ended.
Nintendo is using the HOME connection and the Switch remakes to reintroduce these encounters to a new generation of players, Comic Book reports. The move underlines Nintendo's broader goal of keeping Pokémon moving across all platforms — from the oldest Kanto adventures to the newest Switch titles.
