Disney integrates Millennium Falcon ride with Fortnite island, allowing linked progression and in-game rewards

Unreal Engine 5 powers ride customization for the Smugglers Run–Fortnite crossover, with Disney Games and Digital Entertainment working alongside Lucasfilm to build the integration in-house.
During Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, guests can experience a special briefing from Hondo Ohnaka and encounter added cockpit elements that enhance the cross-media mission.
Smuggler's Gambit hub on Ord Ryla, centered around the Scuttled Sparrow, includes three factions, weapon and item vendors, a dock for missions, and a hosted presence from Hondo, expanding the in-world PvE experience.
A Mandalorian and Grogu storyline previously debuted on the Smugglers Run ride, signaling ongoing cross-media storytelling that extends into Fortnite and more.
Disney is turning a theme park ride into a living video game. Starting August 16, 2026, guests who ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland or Walt Disney World can earn real Fortnite rewards — at no extra cost with regular park admission. CNET reported that crates collected during the ride unlock in-game items, including a Forsworn Trooper outfit.
The crossover, announced at D23, connects the ride to a brand-new Fortnite island called Smugglers Gambit. Players link their Disney and Epic Games accounts to carry progress between the park and the game. Attractions Magazine called it a physical-to-digital experience that launches at both parks simultaneously.
The two experiences are built to feed each other. Players can start the story in Fortnite and finish it on the ride — or do it the other way around. According to WDW Magic, Smugglers Gambit is set on a planet called Ord Ryla, near Mersa Veta Station. The hub area is centered around a ship called the Scuttled Sparrow.
The Smugglers Gambit island includes three factions, weapon vendors, item vendors, and a dock for launching missions. Hondo Ohnaka — the fan-favorite pirate character — hosts the experience on both sides. Bleeding Cool reported that the island is a cooperative PvE zone, meaning players fight pirates and Imperial remnants together, not each other.
When guests ride Smugglers Run, they get a special briefing from Hondo Ohnaka inside the attraction. The cockpit gains added elements tied to the cross-media mission. Crates collected during the ride go straight to a linked Fortnite account. CNET confirmed the rewards include the Forsworn Trooper outfit and in-game credits.
Progression works in both directions. Scoring well in Fortnite missions affects rewards back in the park experience. Linking accounts is free. The only requirement is a valid park ticket. Disney and Epic Games want the barrier to entry as low as possible.
The project is not a simple licensing deal. Disney Games and Digital Entertainment, Disney Imagineering, and Lucasfilm all worked with Epic Games to build the integration in-house. Unreal Engine 5 powers the ride customization features that make the crossover possible. Head Topics reported this is meant to show a broader vision of storytelling across parks and home entertainment.
Disney has been testing this kind of cross-media storytelling for a while. A Mandalorian and Grogu storyline already appeared inside the Smugglers Run ride before this Fortnite deal. Attractions Magazine noted that rollout signals Disney's plan to keep layering new narrative experiences onto existing rides rather than building entirely new ones.
The feature goes live on August 16, 2026 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. It costs nothing beyond standard park admission. Disney is betting that Fortnite's massive player base — the game has over 650 million registered accounts — will give families a new reason to visit. Bleeding Cool described the collaboration as a direct bridge between two of the world's biggest entertainment platforms.
For Fortnite players who never set foot in a Disney park, the Smugglers Gambit island is still fully playable on its own. The story works as a standalone game experience. But Disney is clearly hoping that tasting the Fortnite side of the story will push players toward booking a trip.
