UNIVEST Financial Expands Abbott, Bond ETF Holdings in First Quarter

UNIVEST raised its Abbott Laboratories (ABT) stake by 24.9% to 29,397 shares in Q1, after purchasing an additional 5,863 shares during the period, with the position valued at about $3.018 million.
Among other major ABT holders, Vanguard Group Inc increased its position to 175,556,716 shares (valued at about $21.996 billion), State Street Corp to 79,853,782 shares ($10.005 billion), Capital International Investors to 63,229,445 shares ($7.923 billion), J. Stern & Co. LLP to 39,319,009 shares ($4.926 billion), and Capital Research Global Investors to 39,169,239 shares ($4.908 billion) in the fourth quarter.
UNIVEST’s stake in iShares Core Total USD Bond Market ETF (IUSB) climbed 10.5% to 1,101,390 shares, worth about $50.873 million, making up 2.9% of its portfolio and ranking as its ninth-largest holding.
IUSB traded around $45.74 per share with about 2.89 million shares changing hands in that session, and the fund carries a market cap near $42.65 billion, a price/earnings ratio of 10.80, and a beta of 0.26.
UNIVEST also expanded its SPDR Bloomberg High Yield Bond ETF (JNK) position by 17.5% to 44,363 shares, valued at about $4.246 million.
UNIVEST Financial Corp quietly bulked up its portfolio in the first quarter of 2025, raising its Abbott Laboratories stake by 24.9% to 29,397 shares — a position now worth about $3.0 million, according to Watchlist News.
The Pennsylvania-based investment firm did not stop at healthcare. It also expanded two major bond ETF positions, signaling a deliberate push into fixed-income assets alongside its equity holdings.
UNIVEST added 5,863 shares of Abbott Laboratories during Q1, bringing its total to 29,397 shares valued at roughly $3.018 million, Watchlist News reported. Abbott makes healthcare products ranging from diagnostics to medical devices.
UNIVEST is far from alone in its Abbott conviction. Vanguard Group holds 175.6 million shares worth about $22.0 billion. State Street Corp owns 79.9 million shares valued at $10.0 billion. Capital International Investors holds 63.2 million shares worth $7.9 billion. These are Q4 figures, showing Abbott draws massive institutional interest at every level.
UNIVEST's biggest move in dollar terms was in bonds. It added 104,619 shares of the iShares Core Total USD Bond Market ETF, ticker IUSB. Its total position now stands at 1,101,390 shares, worth about $50.9 million — a 10.5% jump from the prior quarter, according to Ticker Report.
That position now makes up 2.9% of UNIVEST's total portfolio, ranking it as the firm's ninth-largest holding. IUSB trades around $45.74 per share. The fund carries a market cap near $42.65 billion and a beta of just 0.26, meaning it moves far less than the broader stock market.
UNIVEST also grew its position in the SPDR Bloomberg High Yield Bond ETF, known by its ticker JNK. The firm purchased 6,601 new shares, pushing its total to 44,363 shares. That stake is now worth about $4.25 million, Watchlist News reported.
High-yield bond ETFs like JNK hold bonds from companies with lower credit ratings. They pay higher interest than safe government bonds, but carry more risk. By expanding here, UNIVEST is reaching for more income while still spreading risk across hundreds of bonds inside the fund.
Taken together, these Q1 moves show UNIVEST actively reshaping its book. It lifted exposure to healthcare via Abbott, broad bond markets via IUSB, and higher-yielding credit via JNK. At the same time, Ticker Report noted the firm trimmed its TJX Companies stake by 4.8%, cutting it to 88,835 shares.
The pattern suggests UNIVEST is rotating — reducing some equity positions and adding both safety and yield through fixed-income ETFs. The IUSB position alone, at nearly $51 million, dwarfs its Abbott stake of $3 million, showing where the firm is placing its bigger bets.
