Users can now ask ChatGPT to compare lab results, track changes since past appointments, and see how sleep or activity levels relate to their health. All of this requires explicit user permission before any data is used.
Apple Health Is Just the Start of Connected Records
The integration goes beyond Apple Health. Users can also connect records from supported US hospital systems, One Medical, and Function Health, according to Neowin. That gives ChatGPT a broader picture of a person's health history.
OpenAI says health data will not be used to train its models or target ads. Users who do not want to connect any records can still use the Health feature on its own, with no linked data required.
New GPT-5.6 Sol Model Targets Health Performance
OpenAI also introduced GPT-5.6 Sol, a model built specifically for health tasks. The company calls it its most capable model for health work. A smaller version, called Luna, costs less to run and beats earlier models on certain benchmarks, MLQ.ai noted. OpenAI used a tool called HealthBench Professional to measure how well the models perform.
OpenAI says Sol performs at a clinician-style level on health questions. The company stressed that hundreds of millions of weekly health chats have helped it improve the model over time.
Privacy Risks Remain Despite Built-In Safeguards
Not everyone sees the rollout as a clear win. AppleInsider pointed out that connecting Apple Health to ChatGPT means sharing sensitive data with a third party — something Apple's own Siri AI avoids by keeping health data on-device. The tradeoff is more capable analysis at the cost of broader data exposure.
OpenAI says users stay in control of what is connected and what ChatGPT can see. The company notes that Codex, its coding tool, does not yet include any Health features — so the integration is limited to standard ChatGPT for now.
