Author Cal Flyn Explores The Planet's Most Damaged And Wild Landscapes

Cal Flyn, author of "The Savage Landscape: How We Made the Wilderness," spent time traveling around the world to research her book. She visited remote areas in Africa, Antarctica, and the Amazon, encountering men, Indigenous communities, big game hunters, turbulent seas, wild animals and an erupting volcano. Flyn's book, "TheSavage Landscape," is a work of nonfiction research and reporting, exploring places damaged by war, climate change, industry, and people. She also explores preservation efforts, the treatment of Indigenous communities and the most effective ways to achieve environmental goals. Fly's previous book, 'Islands of Abandonment: Nature Rebounding in the Post-Human Landscape', explored landscapes after catastrophe. She believes that while her research for her previous book opened her eyes to the possibility that land once considered ruined or irredeemable might have potential.
