Xos Power Hub Launch Sparks Stock Rally by Addressing AI Data Center Grid Delays

Xos’ shares more than doubled in after-hours trading after the company unveiled its 2.5MWh Power Hub series, a set of behind-the-meter energy storage and hybrid power systems. The company said the Power Hub is intended to deliver megawatt-scale power within days by shipping in standard intermodal containers, addressing multi-year U.S. grid interconnection timelines that can run roughly three to seven years. Xos designed the system to support AI-driven data center growth, citing expectations that global data center electricity use will roughly double by 2030 while transformer and grid equipment lead times remain lengthy. The series scales from 1.2MWh to 4MWh, including a 2.5MWh configuration delivering 1.2MW of continuous output, and is paired with natural gas generators to help smooth load changes. Xos also emphasized that the Power Hub is built on the same architecture as its mobile charging platform, drawing on an installed base that includes more than 250MWh of deployed energy storage in commercial service. Overall, the launch positions behind-the-meter power as a strategic necessity rather than emergency backup for facilities facing capacity delays.
Xos said its Power Hub is designed with fully integrated “power conversion, controls, and dispatch logic,” so customers allegedly “do not need separate microgrid controllers or multiple vendor systems,” which the company says reduces engineering work and shortens deployment timelines.
The company’s launch materials emphasize a track record: the Power Hub is built on the same architecture as the Xos Hub™ mobile EV-charging platform and is “behind more than 250 MWh of Xos energy storage already operating in commercial service across North America” (positioning it as a “productized platform with a proven track record, not a launch promise”).
Xos highlighted a specific business/scale metric for its existing platform: the architecture powering the Power Hub is supported by an installed base “already includes more than 1,400 assets across North America,” alongside the deployed storage figure.
Beyond the 2.5MWh configuration, Xos detailed the rest of the product line: it offers a 1.2MWh model delivering “0.6 MW output,” and a 4.0MWh model intended for sites needing higher stored-energy density.
Xos provided a direct framing of the grid bottleneck in its statement to investors: it cited that the transformers, switchgear and grid connections required to serve AI-driven demand have lead times of “up to five years,” and said “Behind-the-meter power has shifted from contingency to strategic necessity.”
