Cash App Reportedly Broadens Crypto Access via MoonPay, Though Partnership Claims Face Scrutiny

One cited report counters the Cash App–MoonPay partnership claim, stating that no partnership has been announced and the connection is largely speculative as of mid-August 2026.
MoonPay is described as a fiat on-ramp that supports over 100 tokens across various payment methods, expanding beyond just Bitcoin and USDC.
The reporting frames the MoonPay tie-up as part of a broader industry trend where platforms broaden crypto access by partnering with on-ramp providers instead of building full infrastructure in-house.
Morgan Kuntze, Block's global partnerships lead, notes that Bitcoin remains central to the digital asset strategy while the company also aims to offer customers more choice and flexibility in how they pay.
Jack Dorsey has publicly expressed skepticism about stablecoins, while acknowledging that Cash App users want access to them via broader asset offerings.
Cash App is expanding its crypto offerings beyond Bitcoin and USDC by teaming up with MoonPay, a fiat on-ramp that supports over 100 digital tokens. Eligible U.S. users can now buy assets like Ether, Solana, XRP, and USDT using their Cash App balance, according to PYMNTS and Crypto News.
The move lets users fund MoonPay purchases directly from Cash App without switching between apps. MoonPay's checkout also connects to partner wallets like Ledger, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Uniswap, and BitPay, per KuCoin.
MoonPay added Cash App Pay as a payment method for U.S. crypto purchases, according to Crypto News. Users link their Cash App balance to MoonPay's checkout. From there, they can buy tokens without entering card details or moving funds first. The integration is live now for eligible U.S. customers.
BigGo Finance reports that the partnership also reaches beyond MoonPay's own platform. Users can pay through partner wallets — including MetaMask and BitPay — using Cash App balances as the funding source. That gives Cash App's 50 million-plus users a broader entry point into crypto markets.
Block, Cash App's parent company, has long focused on Bitcoin above all else. CEO Jack Dorsey has publicly expressed skepticism about stablecoins like USDT. But Dorsey has also acknowledged that Cash App users want access to a wider range of assets, per Crypto Economy.
Morgan Kuntze, Block's global partnerships lead, said Bitcoin remains "central" to the company's digital asset strategy. But she added that Block also wants to give customers "more choice and flexibility in how they pay." The MoonPay deal reflects that shift without requiring Block to build new infrastructure from scratch.
Not all coverage agrees on the facts here. At least one account challenges the partnership claim directly, stating that no formal Cash App–MoonPay deal had been announced as of mid-August 2026. That account calls the connection largely speculative, raising questions about how some outlets framed the story.
The distinction matters. PYMNTS described MoonPay as "the first and only platform" offering Cash App Pay for digital asset purchases — a specific claim that implies an exclusive arrangement. But if no formal partnership exists, the integration may simply reflect MoonPay adopting Cash App Pay as one of many payment rails, not a strategic alliance.
The Cash App–MoonPay tie-up fits a clear pattern across the payments industry. Rather than building crypto infrastructure in-house, platforms are partnering with on-ramp providers to expand access fast. MoonPay already supports over 100 tokens and multiple payment methods, making it an easy plug-in for apps with large user bases.
BigGo Finance notes this approach lets Cash App broaden its crypto reach without taking on the regulatory and technical burden of listing new assets directly. For users, the result is simpler: more coins, fewer steps, all inside familiar apps they already use.
