FIFA and Netflix Partner to Launch Accessible World Cup Football Game for Subscribers

FIFA announced FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, a new football video game coming exclusively to Netflix Games on June 11 to coincide with the 2026 World Cup kickoff. The game, built with Netflix Games and Delphi Interactive, is aimed at being easy to access, using a smartphone as the controller with players connecting to a TV by scanning a QR code. It lets users select from all 48 World Cup teams and play matches across 16 real-world stadiums, featuring more than 1,200 players, and supports up to four players. FIFA says the launch reflects a post–EA Sports strategy shift toward a multi-partner gaming ecosystem, with additional features and broader platform support planned after release. Netflix describes the title as a streamlined “Kickoff” experience that will roll out beyond an initial limited test in Brazil and be available in multiple countries through Netflix’s TV games catalog.
The game will be included with Netflix Games “at no additional cost” for Netflix subscribers, with FIFA and Netflix framing it as a way to broaden fan engagement through a revamped digital strategy.
Netflix described the on-phone/on-TV controls in more specific terms: after launching on the TV and scanning a QR code, players “’ll be swiping to shoot and pass in seconds,” designed so even non-gamers can play.
Beyond the Brazil test, Netflix said games on TV are already available in 20 countries—listing the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and Brazil.
Netflix and FIFA positioned “Launch Edition” explicitly as its “Kickoff” experience—“a streamlined, high-energy game that will evolve over time” and gives the “immediate rush” of playing during the World Cup event.
