Funcom Confirms Dune: Awakening Console Launch for September 22, Offering Unified Cross-Platform Play

The September console launch will feature private servers and Conan Exiles–style world settings for the solo offline mode, expanding customization and persistence beyond standard single-player play.
The update cycle includes a base-backup system alongside endgame revamps and PvP adjustments, signaling deeper changes to core progression and server integrity.
The PlayStation 5 physical edition will include an exclusive Terrarium of Muad’Dib decorative item and a global color swatch; digital pre-orders also include these bonuses, while Deluxe and Ultimate Editions add a five-day early access window plus additional content.
A Japanese retail release is planned for October, with the local publishing partner to be announced at a later date.
Digital pre-orders for the PS5 and Xbox versions have been available since June 2, with physical PS5 pre-orders opening through select retailers as well.
Funcom has set September 22 as the console launch date for Dune: Awakening, bringing the open-world survival game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on the same day as a major PC update, according to RPG Site. The release marks the game's first appearance on consoles after more than a year of PC development, with full feature parity from day one.
A physical PS5 edition will also be available, with global distribution handled by Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe and Solutions 2 GO. Pre-orders are already open, and a Japanese retail release is planned for October, Otaku Kart reported.
The September update adds a solo offline mode to Dune: Awakening for the first time. iXBT Games reported the mode will include scalable difficulty settings and private servers. Funcom modeled the setup after Conan Exiles, its earlier survival game, giving players Conan Exiles-style world customization settings.
Console players will get the full experience from day one. That includes onboarding improvements, the new Polar Cap map, and endgame and PvP adjustments. A base-backup system is also coming, adding protection for player-built structures on servers.
The physical PS5 box includes an exclusive in-game item called the Terrarium of Muad'Dib and a global color swatch. Push Square noted that digital pre-orders also include these bonuses, making them available beyond just the retail edition. Pre-orders for the digital PS5 and Xbox versions opened on June 2.
Players who want more can buy the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition. Both add a five-day early access window, letting buyers jump in before the September 22 launch. Additional content is bundled in as well, though Funcom has not detailed every item included.
Massively Overpowered reported that Funcom released a video recapping the game's first year and outlining its fall plans. The studio positioned the September launch as a turning point for growing the player base. Funcom also teased post-console plans, though specifics were not shared.
The retail rollout covers Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and North and South America. A Japan launch is planned for October, with a local publishing partner to be named later. Funcom did not give a specific date for the Japan release.
The September 22 update is not just a console launch. PC players get the same content drop, including the story finale and the Polar Cap map. RPG Site noted that Funcom's major 1.4 update and The Water Wars DLC had already launched on May 19, setting the stage for the fall release.
Funcom is treating the September build as a unified version across all platforms. The goal is one complete game, not a scaled-down port. That approach signals the studio wants console and PC players in the same world, with no major gaps in content or features.
