President Donald Trump is planning to capitalise on his popularity at the Republican Convention in Dallas, Texas, to boost his party's chances in the upcoming midterms. The president, who is not actually on the ballot, plans to give both keynote addresses and close remarks during the convention, with some of the party's most vulnerable lawmakers. The event was conceived and planned by Trump, who was closely involved in nearly all of the convention's details. The Republican Party is selling $16 beer cozies online depicting the president as the Marlboro Man and is promoting his administration's policies, including cracking down on the U.S.-Mexico border, reducing taxes on workers earning tips and overtime, and increasing prescription drug prices. However, it is unclear if this strategy will be successful as the party in power typically loses the midterms due to headwinds. The party's political organization, MAGA Inc., with a nearly $400 million war chest, is spending $10 million on television and digital ads in the Texas Senate race, while a separate group, Securing American Greatness, has begun running ads touting the president's record.
