Dinosaur Survival Horror 'The Lost Wild' Reemerges for PS5, PC in 2027.

At Sony’s State of Play on June 2, 2026, Annapurna Interactive and Great Ape Games announced The Lost Wild, a first-person dinosaur survival horror coming to PS5 and PC in 2027. Rather than fighting, players are placed at the bottom of the food chain and survive through observation, instinct, restraint, and evasion, using the environment and non-lethal tools to distract or intimidate dinosaurs. The team said its approach treats dinosaurs as believable, system-driven animals rather than scripted monsters, an idea influenced by Great Ape’s prior work on Alien: Isolation. Gameplay centers on tense cat-and-mouse encounters inside claustrophobic overgrown locations like abandoned research facilities. The story is exploration-led, with a character named Saskia piecing together clues about fragmented human activity on the island. A newly released trailer emphasizes the claustrophobic predator atmosphere and hints at personal backstory through a radio mystery and a brief scene involving a child and father discussing dinosaurs.
The new State of Play trailer comes after a long gap: The Lost Wild was first announced in 2022, went “mostly radio silent,” and previously had a tentative 2024 window—before this June trailer offered a fresh update. DoteSports also notes the trailer is “just short of a minute and a half” and is packed with “menacing shots of dinosaurs throughout a ruined facility.”
Annapurna’s own description emphasizes specific survival guidance: “Keep your head down, stay alert, and evade. If all else fails, run or try to intimidate using non-lethal weaponry,” framing encounters as pressure and restraint rather than combat patterns.
Great Ape Games’ exploration story includes tangible human evidence beyond general “traces”—VICE’s account says Saskia finds “notebooks and discarded ID passes” scattered across the island’s overgrown environment.
The gameplay tension is designed around moment-to-moment instinctive reactions: Push Square and Game Informer report the announcement trailer shows a primal forest scenario where players must decide whether to “freeze or run to survive.”
Beyond the radio and child/father exchange, the trailer adds additional character-story hints: it shows a “car accident” tied to the childhood conversation and ends with “a young woman on the island, as she heads towards a giant structure,” suggesting a mystery location or future plot development.
