7-Eleven Celebrates 99th Birthday and Slurpee's 60th Anniversary with Free Drinks Today

Today is July 11 — and that means free Slurpees. 7-Eleven is giving away one free small Slurpee to every customer at participating stores across the country, while supplies last, according to NBC San Diego.
The giveaway marks two milestones at once: the convenience store chain's 99th birthday and the 60th anniversary of the Slurpee itself, which first debuted in 1966, NBC Boston reported.
Getting the free drink is simple. Walk into a participating 7-Eleven store on July 11 and ask for a free small Slurpee. No app, no coupon, and no purchase required. The only catch: supplies are limited, so going early improves your chances, according to NBC Washington.
The offer is available at stores across the United States. Not every single location participates, so it is worth checking with your nearest store before making the trip, NBC Connecticut noted.
The celebration does not stop on July 11. The promotion runs through August 29. During that time, members of 7-Eleven's free loyalty programs — 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards — can enter for a chance to win a visit from the Slurpee Truck, NBC Los Angeles reported.
Signing up for either rewards program is free. Members earn points on purchases and can redeem them for drinks, snacks, and other deals throughout the year.
The Slurpee turns 60 this year. The frozen drink was created in 1966 after 7-Eleven licensed a slushy machine technology. It quickly became one of the most recognized frozen beverages in the world, according to NBC Boston.
7-Eleven itself is even older. The chain was founded in 1927, making this year its 99th birthday. The July 11 date — 7/11 on the calendar — has long been the company's unofficial holiday.
For fans who want more than a drink, 7-Eleven is also selling anniversary-themed merchandise. Items are available through the company's 7Collection online store, NBC San Diego reported. The store sells branded clothing, accessories, and collectibles tied to the chain's iconic products.
