Coastal Financial Corporation Names Joel Edwards Interim CFO After Brandon Soto's Departure

Coastal Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: CCB) announced that its Chief Financial Officer, Brandon Soto, is leaving to become CEO at another bank. Soto will step down from his CFO role on August 15, 2026, according to GlobeNewswire.
To keep things running smoothly, the company has appointed Joel Edwards as Interim CFO. Edwards held the CFO role at Coastal from 2012 until he retired in 2025. He has since been working as an advisor to the company, according to Yahoo Finance.
Soto is set to become the Chief Executive Officer of a banking subsidiary of a private company. The announcement did not name the institution. His last day as CFO of Coastal Financial is August 15, 2026, GlobeNewswire reported.
Soto served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Coastal Financial and its subsidiary, Coastal Community Bank. His move marks a significant departure for the Nasdaq-listed company, which is known for its embedded banking and financial technology partnerships.
Edwards is no stranger to the CFO chair. He led Coastal's finances for roughly 13 years, from 2012 until his retirement in 2025. The company then kept him close as an advisor, and that relationship is now paying off, according to Yahoo Finance.
His return as Interim CFO gives Coastal a steady hand during the leadership change. The company said it will search for a permanent CFO, looking at both internal and external candidates.
Coastal Financial said it is opening a formal search for a full-time CFO. The company did not set a timeline for filling the role. Both inside and outside candidates will be considered, GlobeNewswire reported.
Having a former CFO step back in as interim gives the company breathing room. It avoids a rushed hire and lets leadership move carefully. Coastal Community Bank, the company's core subsidiary, continues to operate while the search gets underway.
