Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney hosted Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Ottawa on June 22, 2026 — the first time a sitting Croatian leader has ever visited Canada. The two leaders met at West Block on Parliament Hill to celebrate a bilateral trade relationship that has grown 500% over the past decade, now worth US$430 million annually, according to PMO Canada.
The summit produced a concrete deal: a new commercial agreement between Canada's Remote Robotic Systems and Croatia's drone tech firm Orqa to expand drone manufacturing on Canadian soil. Trade Surges 500% in a Decade of Growing Ties
Bilateral trade between Canada and Croatia has exploded from a modest base to US$430 million in 2025 — a jump of roughly one-third in a single year, according to Vlada.hr. That growth was helped by the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), a deal that lowered barriers between Canada and the European Union, of which Croatia is a member.
