CorVista Health Announces New AMA CPT Code for AI Analysis of Cardiopulmonary Disease

The American Medical Association has assigned CPT code 1104T to CorVista Health's AI-powered heart and lung screening tool — a key step toward getting doctors paid for using it. The code becomes effective January 1, 2027, according to Business Wire.
The CorVista System screens patients for three conditions at once: coronary artery disease (CAD), pulmonary hypertension (PH), and elevated pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), which signals heart failure risk. It does this without radiation, needles, contrast dye, or exercise — just sensors placed on a resting patient.
A Category III CPT code is a temporary billing code. It does not guarantee insurance payment. What it does is let clinics track how often they use a new technology. That data is then used to apply for a Category I code — which comes with a set dollar value and required coverage by payers, according to Morningstar.
CorVista CEO Adrian Lam called the AMA's decision "a significant milestone for CorVista and for the broader movement toward earlier, more accessible cardiovascular diagnosis." The company now has a clear path: build utilization data over the next three to five years, then push for a permanent, reimbursed code.
Traditional CAD diagnosis often requires invasive coronary angiography, which uses radiation and contrast dye. Diagnosing PH or elevated PCWP typically requires a right heart catheterization — a procedure done in a cath lab. The CorVista System replaces this with two sensor types: orthogonal voltage gradient (OVG) and photoplethysmography (PPG). Both capture signals while the patient sits still.
The signals are processed by a cloud-based AI. In clinical studies, the system showed 99% negative predictive value for CAD — meaning it is very effective at ruling out serious disease. The IDENTIFY study found 88% sensitivity for detecting CAD, according to Morningstar. A separate study showed patients with heart failure were 29 times more likely to test positive on the PCWP algorithm than those without it, per GlobeNewswire.
CorVista did not arrive at this code overnight. The CAD module got FDA 510(k) clearance in September 2023. The PH module followed in April 2024. The PH algorithm had already earned FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in December 2022, according to GlobeNewswire. The PCWP module is still under FDA review.
New data on the system's ischemia detection model was presented at the American College of Cardiology's 2026 meeting in New Orleans, per Business Wire. The company also named a new Chief Customer Officer in May 2026 to lead commercial growth — a sign it is shifting from clinical validation to market expansion.
The CorVista System needs no CT scanner, no cath lab, and no specialized facility. It runs over the internet, which means a rural primary care doctor could use it without referring patients to a distant hospital. About 80% of PH patients globally live in areas with limited access to specialist care, according to BioSpace.
There is also a cost argument. Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Charles Bridges has pointed to HFpEF — a common form of heart failure — as "arguably the largest unmet need in cardiovascular medicine today, representing approximately $25 billion in direct costs to the US healthcare system." Earlier, non-invasive diagnosis could chip away at that number. The 2027 code effective date gives hospitals and clinics time to prepare.
